Krafton Invests in Far From Home, Makers of Forever Skies

Forever Skies

Krafton, the South Korean gaming giant behind the smash-hit PUBG: Battlegrounds, has acquired a minority stake in Far From Home, the Polish independent studio behind the highly anticipated game Forever Skies

This investment is part of Krafton's strategy to support promising independent developers and their creative visions.

Promising New Title: Forever Skies

Forever Skies is an upcoming first-person post-apocalyptic survival action-adventure, developed by Far From Home.

It is currently available in Steam Early Access since June 2023 and has already garnered over 160,000 sales.

Storyline:

The game tasks players to explore a mysterious and dangerous world filled with toxic fog and floating airships

This state-of-the-art airship serves as the player's base, home, and primary means of survival in a world where the ground is no longer safe due to a vast toxic dust cloud shrouding an ecologically devastated Earth.

Players can pilot, upgrade, and fully customize their high-tech airship, which serves as their lifeline and greatest tool for survival.

The game's premise was inspired by the real-world issue of poor air quality in Polish cities like Krakow and Wroclaw, where people sometimes need to go 100 meters above the cities to breathe clean air.

Players must scavenge for resources, craft tools, and weapons, and ultimately uncover the secrets of this bizarre environment.

Exclusive Release on PS5

Last month, Another gaming giant, Sony secured an exclusive deal with Far From Home for the PlayStation 5 console-exclusive release of Forever Skies, slated for later this year.

Sony has also pledged development support and funding as part of the partnership.

This announcement comes after Sony's recent statement that it won't release any major PlayStation-exclusive games before April 2025.

This opens doors for second-party IPs and smaller titles from other small studios to bridge the gap.

How Will the Investment Be Utilized?

While the details of the investment have not been disclosed, Krafton's financial backing will provide Far From Home with much-needed funding diversification and long-term security.

According to Andrzej Blumenfeld, CEO of Far From Home, the investment from Krafton will primarily be used to fund the development of the studio's next project after Forever Skies.

With Krafton's investment, Far From Home gains access to valuable resources and industry expertise, enabling them to take their ambitions to new heights.

One of the key benefits of this partnership is the creative independence that Far From Home retains.

Despite the minority stake, the studio will maintain full control over its creative vision and decision-making process

This autonomy ensures that the team's artistic integrity remains intact, allowing them to continue crafting exceptional gaming experiences without external interference.

Forever Skies is expected to make its full debut on PC and PlayStation 5 with both single-player and co-op multiplayer modes later this year.
